Volunteer Opportunities: The BOW Relay Is Just 58 Days Away (Video)

The Bethany Orange Woodbridge (BOW) Relay for Life, a 24-hour fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society  takes place at the Orange Fairgrounds (High Plains) in just 60 days.

The 2011 Relay reached its goal of $110,000 and hopes to make that same amount this year.

The Co-Chairmen, George Geane, Debby Davis and Lynn Plaskowitz were "pumped" and ready to roll in November 2011 in preparing to make the 2012 Relay the best one yet by starting early and getting all the plans finalized and all the committee members in place before the first of the year.

Now, here we are, it's almost March, the event is 60 days away and there are still so many things to do.

Geane said the committee has a lot of fun. Plaskowitz said being a team captain is easy. Davis said she always gets a lot of cooperation from the High School kids, but it's the adults who don't seem interested in helping.

The average Relay team consists of 10-15 people and each one must raise $100 — $10 from 10 friends, by having fund-raising events prior to the Relay, or some other way. Each team should have at least $1,000 on "Bank night."

New at the Relay this year will be the sale of tiki torches (also as a fund-raiser).
