Relay for Life Honors Davis, Geane (Video)

The 2012 Relay for Life of BOW had its challenges with the driving winds and cold temperatures, but it didn't stop anyone from remembering why they volunteered to be there.

Amity teacher Jim Clifford again played emcee for the luminary ceremony.

Former Relay chairman Kristin Marquis introduced this year's honorees, co-chairmen George Geane and Debby Davis.

Neither made a speech, but Davis's son, Seth shared a few thoughts about his mom with the crowd (see video).

Then Amity Softball star Jackie Ferraiolo shared her lifetime of heartbreak from the affect of cancer on her family.

The Relay committee faced many challenges during the luminary ceremony because of the wind. Candles inside bags would blow out, or catch on fire, some hand-held candles would not stay lit for more than a few seconds, so the team leaders broke out the glow sticks.

Still, once everyone began walking the silent lap, nothing else really mattered, Clifford's words and John Jorge singing in the background set the mood for a meaningful luminary walk.
