Relay for Life Chilly But Heartwarming

The opening ceremony had tri-town representation.

Winter coats and hats, gloves, tents and sleeping bags: you could see it all at the Orange Fairgrounds Friday night.

Still spirits were high and there was a sense of relief for warm weather folks as word spread that the High Plains Community Center would be open to anyone that prefered to sleep inside where it was more comfortable.

Things were a little different this year, with the two survivors giving their speeches before the survivor and caregiver lap led by Dr. Bob Rauch driving a golf cart — he is wearing a chemo pump for the weekend.

The Police Honor Guard consisted of two Orange officers, a Woodbridge officer and a State Trooper.

The Amity girls swim team's flowers were selling briskly, as were the soda tab bracelets and Best Buy's raffle tickets for an iPad 2.

There was something for everyone at the Relay.

Amity residents were invited to take a lap, make a donation buy a luminaria bag, enjoy the entertainment, and encouraged to attend the luminaria ceremony at 9 pm.
