The Bethany, Orange and Woodbridge (BOW) Relay for Life Committee worked tirelessly for many months planning the 2011 Relay for Life Fundraiser.
After the two-day event, the committee members said they were pleased with the outcome and the amount of money they were able to raise for the American Cancer Society (ACS). But until this week the exact amount was unknown, as money was still coming in.
On Tuesday, Aug. 16, Aubrey Swift of the ACS announced that the BOW Relay had exceeded its goal of $110,000.
"This year, you all raised $110,287 after expenses. Overall, you raised $115,277," Swift said in a letter to the committee. "Needless to say, I am completely THRILLED for all of you. Very few events in Fairfield County achieved their Relay goal this year due to the economy and tough times. You should all be SO SO proud of everything you have accomplished."
The Relay for Life chairmen, George Geane and Debbie Davis, already have begun planning for the 2012 Relay. Student involvement is vitally important to the Relay's success and students can touch base with Geane and Davis at Amity High School once the school year begins.
