Home Run of a Season in Play for OLL Softball

The following update on the Orange Little League Post Season for Softball was provided by Ed Whitman:

The 11-12 District All Stars had a very strong run in the District Softball tournament, which concluded last week.

The girls finished pool play undefeated going 3-0 with wins over North Branford 5-4, East Haven 10-0 and Milford  4-3. Solid pitching and timely hitting paved the way for the Orange girls. 

With the top 2 teams advancing to a best of 3 championship, Orange was pitted versus North Branford. The Orange girls took game one 6-3 and lost game two by a score of 8 to 3. The Orange girls battled in game 3 with the score tied 2-2 in the 5th inning, but fell short losing 7-2. The team had a lot to be proud of and played their hearts out.

Team members included: Sara Kelly, Sara Chung, Alaina Dwyer, McKenzie McDermott, Grace Whitman, Carly Marchitto, Nicole Hunt, Nicole Koshes, Grace Vocalina, Olivia Pisano, and Rachael Crow.

The team was Coached by Ed Whitman, Carl Marchitto, and Frank Koshes. 

The 9-10 District Softball All Stars were crowned District 4 Champions by virtue of winning 5-0 and 7-6 this past weekend versus North Branford.

Both games were hotly contested with the Orange girls winning game one in North Branford getting great starting pitching which shut down a solid hitting North Branford team. Then in Game 2 they got 2 clutch runs in the bottom of the final inning as they were down to their final 2 outs to win the crown on Stankye Field.

Great pitching, defense, and timely hitting were the key ingredients for the Orange girls.

They now advance to the Sectionals being held in Wallingford in a double elimination format, on Wednesday (July 17), versus Fairfield.

Prior to the District Championship Series the girls started out 4-0, with wins over Bethwood 9-2, Milford 15-3, North Branford 6-4 and East Haven 6 -5 in extra innings.

The team is Coached by Jack Pritchard, Kevin Dwyer, and Bridgett Foyer. 

Lastly, Orange also has an 8U Coach Pitch All Star team competing this summer playing against teams from East Haven, Annex and North Branford.

The girls are making steady progress and have won 2 games thus far with a few more games on the schedule. This is a fun tournament that promotes age appropriate competition with no standings. Everyone is a winner!
