Former Amity Baseball Star Making Noise at UConn

Vin Siena of Woodbridge brings a winning mentality to the team in Storrs.

former baseball standout at Amity Regional High School is making a name for himself at the University of Connecticut as the team in Storrs readies itself for a postseason run.

"If we play the way we did this past week, I don’t think there’s a team that will beat us," Vin Siena, ahead of a NCAA Regionals matchup Friday against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, recently told the New Haven Register.

Winners of the Big East Championship, the Huskies were selected to the field of 64 for the 2013 NCAA Championship due in no small part to Siena.

The Woodbridge resident played in all 60 games this season, finishing second on the team in both hitting (.302) and RBIs (33), the Register reports.

“Freshman year is never easy, and I don’t think Vinny would say it’s easy,” UConn coach Jim Penders said of Siena, according to the paper. “But he’s really established himself this past week to 10 days."

And of wearing the UConn blue and white, Siena told the Register, “Just having ‘Connecticut’ across my chest. I really like the idea of that."
