CT Folk Tour des Farms 2011

Love to ride? Love to eat local? Love music? CT Folk’s Tour des Farms offers the perfect marriage of all three in a Saturday afternoon event the entire family will enjoy.

CT Folk is thrilled to announce the third annual Tour des Farms, a day-long bicycle ride to take place on Saturday, August 20. Starting at Treat Farm in Orange, the Tour will take cyclists to local farms, gardens, and other agricultural treasures along the 25-mile route. At each stop along the road, riders will be entertained by a Connecticut-grown musician. Stops include:  Field View Farm, Massaro Community Farm, Savino Vineyards, and the Ansonia Nature Center.

CT Folk has programmed an exciting line up of independent singer-songwriters from across the state. Artists will entertain riders at each farm stop with their unique blend of contemporary folk & roots music. At the Tour’s end, riders and non-riders alike are invited to an outdoor concert at Treat Farm (361 Old Tavern Road) featuring a song swap with all singer-songwriters heard along the route.

The Tour des Farms offers a unique opportunity to discover local food sources, hidden green spaces and local musicians at the easy-going pace of a leisurely bike ride. Plenty of rest stops at the farms will make the ride enjoyable for most riders over the age of twelve.

Best of all, any fresh produce that cyclists have purchased during the day will be transported by volunteers back to the Tour’s ending point and kept on ice until the end of the day.
