VIEWFINDER: Turkey Hill School Family Day

Food, Fun and one very wet principal highlighted the annual end of year Family Day at Turkey Hill School on Thursday.

The annual end-of-school-year Family Day Picnic drew hundreds of children and adults to Turkey Hill School on Thursday night.

A good natured teacher allowed students to toss paper plates piled with whipped cream (pie-in-the-face) at her, often hugging the ones with the best aim and applauding the messiest "splat."

After another teacher braved the dunk tank earlier in the evening, Principal Colleen Murray announced the names of several students who had earned Free Shots to de-throne her in the dunk tank at 7 p.m. These students had read the most books in their classes during the year for the school wide reading challenge.

Murray's husband handed out tennis balls to everyone who doled out a dollar for a chance to dunk his wife and was the revelers when someone was successful.

Murray's spirits never dampened as she repeatedly climbed out of the pool to take her place back up on the "throne" for another splash.

Assorted baskets were raffled off and a two goats, a mom and her kid kept small crowds entertained as children and teachers tried their hand at the old fashioned milking process, and teachers puckered up to kiss the goat as part of a deal for the reading challenge.

A couple of teachers donned fat suits for a funny sumo wrestling activity.

Burgers and hot dogs were consumed almost as quickly as they were grilled.

Aside from having a great learning environment, the Turkey Hill community knows how to have fun.
