Second Graders Go Back To The 1800s

The Orange Historical Society presented an informative program using artifacts once used in kitchens hundreds of years ago.

 

Goodwife Clark and Goodwife Reinhard came to Turkey Hill School last week to teach second grade classes about items that were used in kitchens during the Victorian Era and in some cases earlier than that.

The children seemed mesmerized as Reinhard demonstrated how a "magic" pot worked and explained the uses for dozens of other kitchen artifacts.

The second graders were inquisitive and continued to ask the women questions even as they walked out the door on the way to lunch.

This is a multiple part series of visits during which the children will churn butter, make candles and puppets, just like children their age did 200 years ago.
