Preview: School Board Meeting, June 11

A reception will greet Eric Carbone, the new principal of Peck Place School.


A small reception and refreshments will greet Eric Carbone, the new principal of the at the Orange meeting tonight, June 11, at 7:30 p.m.

The Peck Place School recently became the object of some attention, when it was announced in May that six among the 58 first grade students would be held back this year. Subsequently, remarked that a committee would develop a protocol with a district philosophy on a solid research base on the issue of retention this summer. 

The reception and BOE meeting will take place in the upstairs conference room in the BOE offices at 637 Orange Center Road.

Matthew Bruder, technology administrator, will give a presentation.

Among the other items on the agenda is a parent survey conducted by the Connecticut Bureau of Special Education. The Bureau of Special Education monitors implementation and compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and it conducts a parent survey as part of its focused monitoring system, according to the Bureau’s website.

The board will move into executive session to discuss its evaluation of Superintendent McMullin. McMullin assumed her position within the school district in January.
