Orange, Bethany Test Score Gap Shrinking

The results for the CMTs and CAPTs are out. Middle school students at the middle schools in Bethany and Orange campuses made some gains - and losses.

As usual, middle school students outscored their peers statewide in the latest round of Connecticut Mastery Tests. While students at both Bethany and in Amity Regional School District #5 outperform the state average, the numbers show a modest disparity between the schools that almost always favors .  

The difference this year is that the gap appears to be shrinking in most categories compared to 2011.

The standardized test was administered to approximately 200 students in seventh and eighth grade. In seventh grade, Bethany students outperformed their Orange counterparts in math and reading by at least 9 points. Orange performed stronger in writing by a margin of three.

In eighth grade, Bethany had higher scores in math, reading and science, but not writing.
