Lockdowns Lifted at Two Orange Schools

Report of gunshots from a wooded area near schools prompts lockdowns.

A report of two gunshots from a heavily-wooded area north of Derby Avenue in Orange led to the lockdown Friday of Amity Regional Middle School and the Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy, police said.

Orange police responded to the report shortly before 10 a.m. and within an hour the lockdowns were lifted, police said.

"No further shots were heard," Police Chief Robert J. Gagne said in a release. "The lockdowns lasted for approximately 40 minutes as police searched the area. The area was found to be secure and the lockdowns were ended."
