School Nurses Day

National School Nurse Day Wednesday, May 9, 2012 “Advocacy, Access, Achievement: Making the Connection” The National Association of School Nurses, Inc. (NASN) has chosen May 9, 2012 as National School Nurse Day. National School Nurse Day was established in 1972 to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting. Today, school nursing is recognized as a specialized practice that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To this end, over 76,000 school nurses across the country promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student/family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning. National School Nurse Day falls on the Wednesday during National Nurses Week, May 6 – 12, ending on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing. On this day of celebration, school nurses across Orange Ct will be honored. Songs will be sung and cards will be made by the students, flowers will be delivered and favorite desserts will be served. Schools and communities are encouraged to join with their school nurses in celebrating this important day. Stop by your school nurses office on May 9th and tell her how much you appreciate her. She will be very appreciative! .
