Amity Theater Kids Invited to England/Scotland

Local artists will perform in Festival, Fund-raising efforts will begin soon.

The Amity High School Theater Department under the direction of Robert Kennedy has been selected to perform in the world’s largest and most prestigious arts festival in the world as part of the American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF). Each August, Edinburgh, Scotland becomes the most magical and exciting place on earth as performing artists from all over the world come to Scotland to take part in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The whole city becomes a stage and visitors can view performances that take place everywhere from playgrounds to conference rooms to city parks and churches. The Fringe Festival includes over 1,800 different performances of music, theater, dance and comedy during its three week run.

Amity High Schools performance will be showcased at the AHSTF venue in Edinburgh in August of 2012.  Amity High School, long recognized for its entertaining and innovative productions, was selected by the AHSTF Board of Advisors to represent the United States as part of the 2012 AHSTF program.

The Board reviews all completed applications and recommendations.  This year Amity was one of 50 schools chosen from over 2000 nominated applicants.  The students will participate in a trip of a lifetime including a stay in London where they will tour the city, see a West End show, visit the birthplace of William Shakespeare and experience London during the 2012 summer Olympics.

Fringe Festival

Next, the students are off to Edinburgh Scotland to perform on stage at the Fringe Festival.  While in Edinburgh students will visit the highlands, tour castles and museums and attend plays and shows from around the globe. 

As you can imagine the Amity High School drama students, their parents, and teachers are heavily involved in fundraising activities to finance their two-week adventure in Scotland and England. 

Raising money

The drama club will be on a yearlong fund raising drive with many planned events including; A Haunted House, Children’s Theater production, Improv Comedy Night, Murder Mystery Dinner, A Cabaret and they will be creating a program where the community can sponsor a seat in the auditorium complete with an engraved name plaque.  Any and all contributions are welcome.
