Amity Students Steadily Improve on State Tests

Amity students continue to test slightly better on Connecticut Mastery Test.

The Connecticut State Department of Education (SDE) released the results of the 2013 Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) Tuesday afternoon, with Amity’s seventh and eighth graders showing gains in almost all subjects and grades.

The percentage of Amity students to score at or above proficiency levels in 2013 was slightly higher than for the exams given in 2012, with the largest gain (1.3 percentage points) in seventh grade writing scores.

The only grade/subject area not to exceed 2012 was eighth grade math scores, which dipped 0.7 points from 99 percent to 98.3 percent in 2013. (Statewide scores fell 1 percentage point.)

While the percent to reach proficiency dropped slightly year-over-year, eighth grade math scores were up over the baseline year of 2007 by 5 percentage points. (Statewide up 5.3 points.)

Science scores, which rose 0.5 points over 2012, were down 2 percentage points overall since their peak in 2011. (Statewide up 0.6 points since 2011.)
