Special Town Meeting Tonight

A Special Town Meeting will take place at the High Plains Community Center tonight at 7:30 p.m.

A Special Town Meeting is planned for tonight at the High Plains Community Center at 7:30 p.m.

Although residents have seen the sign in front of the Community Center, the reason for this meeting is a bit of a mystery for many of them.

The purpose of the meeting is to “take action to acquire an interest in property known as 0 Indian River Road …”

The legal speak on the notice itself is confusing, so, what this is about is:

The Lakeside Village Condominium proposal for the property behind the Transfer Station has fallen through and if it goes through foreclosure the town could acquire the property (more than 25 acres).

Bank of America would turn mortgage over to town of Orange and this action could prove beneficial to the town or the developer.

A Town Meeting is necessary when the value of real estate is $150,000 or more.

This is not a bail-out of the developer, or an outright purchase of the property.
