Orange Unemployment Rate Settles in Between Bethany and Woodbridge

July figures show a 6.9 percent unemployment rate. Nationally, that number was 9.1 percent.

Orange, Bethany, and Woodbridge all have an unemployment rate below 8 percent according July figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor. Orange’s unemployment is now 6.9 percent, or 498 people.

Aside from February, July marks the highest unemployment rate this year since February’s 10.5 percent. With muted signs of economic recovery throughout the country, the Amity tri-town unemployment rate is below the national and state averages. In July, a 9.1 percent unemployment rate was reported in the U.S. and a 9.2 rate in the state.

While Orangites seem to be doing fairly well— 6,768 of our town’s labor force of 7,266 are now employed. Comparatively, East Haven's unemployment rate of 10.4 percent is the 13th highest out of Connecticut's 169 muncipalities.
