NEWS BRIEF: Zeoli Weighs in on Oestreicher's Decision

Democratic candidate Dave Oestreicher officially dropped out of the First Selectman's race yesterday.

First Selectman Jim Zeoli said he was assessing flood damage and meeting with residents Monday afternoon when his cell phone began ringing non-stop.

"Everyone was calling to tell me that they'd read on Patch that David Oestreicher had dropped out of the race," he said.

Zeoli, a Republican running for re-election, weighed in once he had time to and learned of the reasons behind Oestreicher's decision.

"I give him credit. He made a tough decision and put his family first. He seemed like a really nice person and I wish him well," Zeoli said. "I'm curious to see who the Democrats will come up with now. They may have someone by their picnic on Thursday."
