District Animal Control Meeting April 14

A quick run-down of what happened at last night's meeting.

Here's the summary on what happened at last night's District Animal Control meeting in a quick, easy to read format designed to keep you well-informed.

  • The Board presented Dr. Nanavati with a certificate in appreciation for almost three decades of service.
  • Animal Control Officer Paul Neidmann reported that in the past month six animals were redeemed, ten were sold as pets and two were euthanized, both dogs were hit by cars and had severe injuries.
  • Brought in from Bethany: A total of two cats and four dogs, a call also came in about a horse, which was guided back to his barn. 23 phone calls required response.
  • From Orange: Two cats, one dog. 20 calls came in requiring response.
  • From Woodbridge: Three cats and five dogs. 26 calls required response.
  • There were a total of 116 calls, 47 resolved by phone.
  • The DAC budget for the next year has no changes. The budget will reflect operating the facility as it is, and if anything changes (i.e. towns opting to leave the district) it will be later changed to reflect that.
  • The Girl Scouts are going to sell small stones to people to put their pets' names on and put them in the town garden along with flowers.
  • Karen Lombardi, who was formerly the Regional Canine Control officer for the state at what is now the DAC facility, has been re-hired and will be working at the shelter as an animal control officer. She was the only person who applied for the open position and was hired after her interview.
  • AARF is holding a Spring Rabies and Microchip clinic, May 14, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the on Orange Center Road, Orange.
