Campaign Notebook: Murphy, McMahon Close in Poll

Senate

The latest Quinnipiac Poll shows Linda McMahon and Chris Murphy essentially tied in the U.S. Senate race. McMahon holds a 48-47 lead with a margin of error of 2.4 points.

Women back Murphy by six points and men back McMahon by seven points. McMahon’s supporters are much more enthusiastic. Half of McMahon’s backers are "very enthusiastic," while 39 percent are "somewhat enthusiastic."

For Murphy supporters, 27 percent are reportedly "very enthusiastic" and 55 percent are "somewhat enthusiastic."

Third District

At a press conference on Wednesday, Wayne Winsley accused Rosa DeLauro of ducking debates.

“The president of the United States has to debate his challenger, one on one, at least three times,” said Winsley, according to the New Haven Register. “Is the Congresswoman of the Third District of higher stature?”

DeLauro’s campaign manager said the congresswoman isn’t hiding.

“There is absolutely no ducking of Mr. Winsley. We are ready to debate, we are ready to do the forums,” Jimmy Tickey told the New Haven Register.
