UPDATED: Bysiewicz to run for US Senate; Lieberman reportedly will not seek re-election

Former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz announced her plans today.

Former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz today announced her plans to run for US Senate in 2012.

Bysiewicz announced that she would go head to head with Senator Joseph Lieberman, who has been been criticized over the past few years for numerous things, including running as an independent after he lost the support of his fellow Democrats and lost the primary.

Late breaking news is that Sen. Lieberman will not run for re-election. His official announcement is expected tomorrow.

On her Facebook page, Byseiwicz wrote, "Today I announce my candidacy for the United States Senate. I am running for the US Senate for the same reason I entered public service: I want this state to be a better place for my children and yours."
