176 New Voters Ready to Exercise Their Right

Registrars set up at Amity High School and registered students to vote ahead of the upcoming budget referendum and municipal elections in Bethany and Woodbridge.

When the budget referendum rolls around in May some young residents will be casting their first ever vote.

And they're set up to exercise their right thanks to voter registration sessions held in senior English classes at Amity High School.

On two days in late March, Registrars from Bethany, Orange and Woodbridge visited the classes to advise students about upcoming voting opportunities and the absentee ballot process.

The Registrars also registered more than 150 students. Here's the breakdown of the numbers by town, as provided by the Woodbridge Registrars Office:

  • Bethany — 30
  • Orange — 92
  • Woodbridge — 54

Voter registration sessions have been held in year's past, too. This year, though, the sessions took place in senior English classes as opposed to the Registrars just setting up at a table in a hallway like they used to.

Woodbridge Democratic Registrar of Voters Jeanette Glicksman said being in the classrooms was a nice change.

"There were a lot of interested kids," she said. "Some of them had very good questions."
