VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS: They Train Just Like Paid Firefighters

Here is a clip from the Class of 2011 Fire Academy practical testing in May, during which an Amity firefighting student found himself in a tight spot.

This was just one part of the practical testing that all recruits must endure and defeat in order to qualify to be certified as firefighters.

This gentleman, from Bethany, is particularly big — over 6-feet tall and admittedly "healthy."

His instructors stayed with him and encouraged him until he figured out what to do an completed the challenge.

This is the spirit that all of our volunteer firefighters demonstrate.
