Vigilant Resident Helps Nab Suspected Laptop Thief

Orange Police say the laptop, stolen at Case Memorial Library, was recovered.

 

A laptop stolen at the library on Friday was recovered on Saturday, and the alleged thief was caught, thanks to a witness with a good eye, and the help of the Orange Police Department.

According to a just-issued report from the , the laptop's owner left a conference room at briefly and returned to find the laptop gone. A witness had reported a suspicious man in the area, and employees found a pair of headphones the man had worn -- abandoned in a stairway near the exit.

The same witness was enjoying the the next day when they spotted the man, police said. The witness quickly notified a  nearby officer, and although police say the man tried to get away, officer Brian Foote apprehended him.

The suspect, Johan Manuel Hernandez-Polanco of Hollywood, FL, was booked and charged with fifth-degree larceny. He was held on $1,000 bond pending arraignment at Derby Superior Court.
