Orange Police have released new information about their investigation into a three-vehicle accident that sent two individuals to the hospital yesterday.

According to the report, a 2013 Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound in the left lane when it made contact with another westbound car in the right lane, in front of Savers on the Boston Post Road in Orange. The drive of the Jeep, who police identified as Gary A. Cioffi, 19, of Muttontown, NY, then lost control of the vehicle and made contact with the rear of a second westbound car before rolling over and striking a utility pole with the windshield area of the Jeep, police said.

The Orange Volunteer Fire Department extricated Cioffi from the Jeep before he was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the Jeep was able to get out on his own and was also transported with minor injuries, police said.

Officer Ryan Ahern is investigating the accident. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact Officer Ahern at 203-891-2130.

The original report follows:

A three-car accident has sent two individuals to the hospital and caused traffic delays on the Boston Post Road in Orange.

Assistant Police Chief Anthony Cuozzo said the accident took place at about 3 p.m. in front of 131 Boston Post Road, which is the address of Savers. One of the vehicles was on its side when police and firefighters arrived, Cuozzo said, and the driver had to be extricated by firefighters.

The driver along with a passenger were transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries, Cuozzo said; both were conscious.

Police and firefighters are still on scene investigating. "There were witnesses on scene," Cuozzo said.

Still, he added, "It's too early to really say what caused it."

In the meantime, Cuozzo said, "It's got traffic pretty well backed up on Route 1" near Bull Hill.

He estimated it would be another 30 to 45 minutes before emergency crews cleared the scene and traffic delays were back to normal.
