Something Smells Funny: UPS Package Delivers Two Drug Arrests

Orange Police say 11 pounds of marijuana was discovered at the local UPS store.

Two men have been arrested and 11 pounds of marijuana confiscated after Orange Police were tipped off to a package with a distinct odor at the local UPS store.

After receiving a call on July 12 that a package smelled of marijuana, Orange Police set up surveillance to watch for the pick-up. A man, who reportedly identified himself to UPS as Quinton Jones, called to inform the store that he would pick up the package at the 554 Boston Post Road location.

"Surveillance observed a black male walk into the UPS store and provided a valid identification with the name Quinton Jones," the police report states. "Jones was handed the package by UPS employees and walked out of the store and placed the package into a Nissan Maxima."

Jones, 32, of New Haven, and the driver, Eric Williams, 37, of New Haven, were placed under arrest at that time, police said.

The package was found to contain 10 individual plastic bags containing a green leafy substance with a total weight of 11 pounds, police said.

Williams was charged with possession with intent to sell, possession within 1,500 feet of a daycare, and possession within 1,500 feet of a school.

Jones was charged with possession of 1 kilogram or more of marijuana, possession within 1,500ft of a daycare and possession within 1,500 feet of a school.

Police said Williams and Jones were held on a $150,000 bond each.
