Police: Orange Man Caught Ransacking Car in Hamden

He was allegedly sitting in the car when police arrived, according to reports.

An Orange man was allegedly caught ransacking a car Friday morning on Concord Street in Hamden.

Police got the report of an attempted larceny at about 10:30 a.m., according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. The person making the report said that there was a man sitting inside her car, Smith said.

When officers got there, they found Clarence Freeman, 32, of 530 Ferry Road, Orange, in the car, Smith said. He had been tampering with the ignition, Smith said, and ransacked the interior of the car going through the victim's belongings.

 Freeman was charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and criminal attempt to commit second-degree larceny. 

Freeman was held in lieu of $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Sept. 20.
