POLICE NEWS: Shopping Rage Results in Arrest

A 62-year-old woman was arrested for assaulting another woman during a shopping excursion.

 

Here are the most recently released reports from the Orange Police Department.

Police were dispatched to the Goodwill Store on a disturbance complaint Dec. 14 at 3:47 p.m.

Investigation revealed that Shelly Gibson, 62, of 889 Mapledale Road and another woman were shopping inside the store when they both attempted to choose the same item to buy.

When the victim in this case wound up with the item, Gibson reportedly struck her in the head and back.

Officers arrived shortly thereafter and Gibson was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.

She was released on a promise to appear in court Dec. 28.

Shoplifting

Two New Haven residents were arrested following a shoplifting investigation on Dec. 12.

According to the report, officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at Target, 25 Boston Post Road, at 6:52 p.m.

When they arrived, they learned that the suspects had left in a vehicle, which was stopped a short distance away.

During the traffic stop, officers found $467.33 worth of unpaid merchandise from Target, along with $474.40 in stolen merchandise from Burlington Coat Factory.

During the investigation, one of the suspects, Luquaia Melton, 20, of 47 Level St., New Haven, reportedly admitted to the theft from Burlington Coat Factory.

Officers also found merchandise from Old Navy and Wal-Mart in the vehicle, which was seized as part of the investigation.

The other suspect, Zackia Yancey, 20, of 102 Read St., New Haven, was further found to have an outstanding arrest warrant from the New Haven Police Department for Failure to Appear in court. This warrant was also served while Yancey was at Orange Police headquarters.

Yancey was charged with sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and second-degree failure to appear in court.

Bond was $3,000 for court Dec. 19.

Melton was charged with two counts of sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Bond was $1,000 for court Dec. 19.
