Orange Police Welcome New Officer

Firefighter of the Year, EMT, Computer savvy: New police officer is the complete package.

The Orange Police Department welcomed its newest officer today in a brief ceremony at police headquarters.

Jeffrey Robertson, 31, of Milford, is already known around town.

He joined the Orange Volunteer Fire Department in 2010 and was honored as Firefighter of the Year in 2011.

He is an EMT and a computer whiz who helped improve the fire department's computer system.

Robertson graduated from Darien High School in 1999.

He graduated RIT with a Bachelor's degree in 2004.

He is favorably adjudicated by the FBI — He applied and passed the FBI background check, but he chose to join the Orange Police Department instead.

Robertson has a family history of service to others.

His father, Charles, is a US Marine who served in Vietnam and earned the Silver Star and Navy Cross.

His brother, Neil is a Norwalk police officer.

Robertson graduated from the CT Police Academy on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

He now will go out on the road with a field training officer (FTO) for 400 hours and then, Officer Robertson will proceed to an assignment in the patrol division.

Robertson lives with his wife Melissa.

Chief Robert Gagne said, "He'll bring the same passion and committment that made him Firefighter of the Year to this department, and we're lucky to have him. The town of Orange is lucky to have him."
