Orange Police Crack Down on DUIs

Three individuals were charged with DUIs in three days.


A Milford man was arrested on a charge of DUI following a motor vehicle accident on Route 121 on June 29.

Orange police said David Kasowitz, 63, was involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Old Grassy Hill Road around 8 p.m. After undergoing field sobriety tests, Kasowitz was taken into custody and, in addition to the DUI, charged with failure to grant right of way, failure to maintain insurance and failure to carry registration.

He was released after posting a $50 bond and is due in court on July 12.

Route 34 DUI

Jonathan Allison, 24, of Hamden, was arrested at 10:41 p.m. on June 30 on a charge of DUI.

According to police, an officer on routine patrol observed a disabled vehicle off the side of Route 34 westbound. "Investigation led officers to have the driver perform standardized roadside sobriety tests," police said. "He was subsequently taken into custody and charged."

Allison was released after posting a $50 bond and is due in court on July 13.

Parked on Route 1

A 23-year-old West Haven woman was charged with DUI after an Orange police officer reportedly observed her vehicle parked in the left turn lane on Route 1 at the intersection of Bull Hill Lane.

The officer was on routine patrol at the time -- 12:46 a.m. on July 1. Investigation led police to conduct field sobriety tests and the woman, identified as Dominique Douthit, was taken into custody and charge, police said.

In addition to DUI, Douthit was charged with operation a motor vehicle without a license and improper parking. She was released after posting a $50 bond and is due in court on July 13.
