Grant money will pay for DUI enforcement now and in coming year.

The holiday season is upon us and the Police Department wants to remind residents and visitors to enjoy the season safely and to not drink and drive.

Asst Police Chief Edward Koether said, "There will be several extra DUI patrols out during the holiday season, and DUI sobriety checkpoints are also being planned for the coming year."

The Department received approval of a grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation for a Comprehensive DUI Enforcement Program to supplement regular patrols as well as conducting sobriety checkpoints.

"Supplemental patrols will have directed assignments specifically towards distracted and dangerous driving as well as looking for operators under the influence," Koether said. "The Department hopes that through public awareness and high visibility patrols, motorists will drive attentively, safely and have a happy holiday for everyone."
