Notes In A Nutshell: Police Commission

During this week's Police Commission meeting, Asst. Chief Edward Koether released the following information regarding April police activity.

In April there were 28 criminal arrests; 223 motor vehicle tickets; 2 commercial burglaries; 2 stolen vehicles; 34 larcenies; 67 accidents; no residential burglaries and no recovered stolen cars.

Officers responded to a total of 2,609 calls which generated 443 reports. Among them were two robbery reports, the first on April 7 at Burlington Coat Factory, 80 Boston Post Road, a female shoplifter punched a security guard to escape when confronted.
 
On April 12, the Exxon Gas Station, 404 Boston Post Road reportedly was robbed at gunpoint. Police said a suspect entered the station, implied he had a handgun and demanded money. The clerk gave him an undetermined amount of money from the register and the man fled on foot. A K-9 track did not locate the suspect.

The two burglaries that were reported took place at Cheng's Buffet, 86 Boston Post Road on April 6. Officers responded to an activated burglar alarm and  found a door lock broken. The Orange Police Investigative Services Unit is following up on that incident.

Someone broke into a greenhouse at a landscaping company on Chestnut Ridge and stole a tool box and tools. The Orange Police Investigative Services Unit is following up on that incident.

A car that would not stop for an officer collided with parked cars on April 5.

The DEA Takeback program was successful, according to Koether. Officer John  Aquino partnered with the DEA to collect any and all prescription medications that residents wanted to dispose of.  The pills were later incinerated at a secret facility by the state.

Officer Aquino applied for and received a $1,000 grant from Walmart.
