A felon with a history of crime was arrested on Friday.

The New Haven Police Department released the following press release concerning a bank robbery in their city early September. There was a collaborative effort between New Haven, West Haven and our Department due to similarities to the People’s Bank Robbery on Sept. 10 in Orange.

As a result of the investigation, New Haven Police made an arrest today in their robbery and members of the Investigative Services Unit of Orange Police were able to secure an arrest warrant in the Orange robbery.

A warrant has been issued by the Derby Superior Court for an Anthony Meizies, 40, in the Orange case. Meizies is being held on bond on New Haven’s charges and Orange will serve its warrant in the near future.

The New Haven press release read as follows:

On Sept. 6, a bank robbery occurred at the Sergeant Drive branch of The Bank of America. Detective Dan Sacco and Officer David Runlett from the New Haven Police Department Robbery Unit responded and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Their investigation revealed that the suspect had used a stolen vehicle out of West Haven to facilitate the robbery. He passed a note demanding money and threatening to harm others if his demands were not met.

Investigators developed Anthony Meizies, 40, as the suspect and an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest. This morning, Sept. 23, at 6:30 a.m., detectives went to his West Haven residence and arrested Meizies.

Meizies is a felon with a long arrest history and convictions for robbery, larceny, assault and narcotics.

Robbery Unit supervisor Sergeant James Grasso said "Detective Sacco and Officer Dave Runlett conducted a superb investigation. Their performance was an example of skill and professionalism for all to see."

Anthony Meizies was charged with Robbery in the second degree and Larceny in the second degree. He is being held on a $250,000.00 court set bond.

New Haven detectives worked in collaboration with Orange and West Haven detectives in this case. Additionally, the Orange Police Department secured an arrest warrant for Meizies for a bank robbery in their town on Sept. 10, 2011.
