It's Time to Fall Back

The switch to standard time is a good opportunity to change the batteries in smoke and CO detectors

Don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour this weekend.

Sunday, Nov. 7, at 2 a.m. marks the official switch from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time, the time of year when we "Fall Back" one hour.

If you have a multitude of clocks in your home, do yourself a favor and try to get an early start. Change the time on microwaves, toaster ovens, coffee machines, automobile clocks, VCRs, DVD players, and of course, your alarm clocks and wall clocks too. Cell phones and computers often reflect the change automatically, but check them in the morning to make sure.

Fire Marshal Tim Smith also reminds residents to change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Winter is the time of year when many carbon monoxide emergencies occur and the detectors will only help if they are in good working order.

Enjoy your extra hour of sleep tonight; after all, you only get this gift once a year.
