Police Say Driving Too Slow Lands Man DUI

Orange police say the Oxford man was also issued an infraction for possession of marijuana.


Police arrested an Oxford man for DUI after they pulled him over on Route 34 in Orange for allegedly driving too slow.

Charles Malmeth, 23, was arrested at 1:08 a.m. on Jan. 20 on charages of DUI, operating a motor vehicle without a license, possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana, and traveling at a slow speed.

According to a report from the Orange Police Department, "Officers conducting routine patrol observed a vehicle traveling at a reduced speed for the roadway it was on [Route 34 westbound]. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers had the driver perform standardized roadside sobriety tests. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged."

Police said Malmeth also had outstanding warrants for his arrest from the Connecticut State Police and police in Watkins Glen, NY.

He was held until his arraignment the next day.
