Cops: Couple Fights Each Other Then Flees Police

Orange police dispatched to alleged incident outside Stop & Shop.

Arrest information supplied by the Orange Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 19-year-old West Haven man was recently arrested in Orange for allegedly getting into a scuffle in public with his girlfriend whom he had a protective order against.

Erik Pate faces charges of second-degree breach of peace, criminal violation of a protective order and interfering with an officer’s investigation.

Police said they were dispatched on a call regarding a disturbance to the parking lot at the Stop & Shop off of Boston Post Road. When officers arrived, both Pate and his girlfriend, a juvenile, ceased fighting and attempted to flee police, police said.

After being apprehended, Pate and his girlfriend “attempted to mislead officers about the identity” of Pate, police said.

After Pate’s true identity was determined, both parties were taken into custody and subsequently charged. Because Pate’s girlfriend is a juvenile, her information could not be released.
