Child Car Restraints: What is Appropriate?

No matter where you are, the question always seems to arise — shouldn't that child be in a car seat?

From birth to 12 years, there are certain rules that apply for child restraints while riding in motor vehicles.

Patch is posting this chart from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that we hope new parents and grandparents will find helpful.

Putting in a car seat for the first time can be complicated. If you live in Amity and need help installing your new car seat properly, there are trained experts who are willing to help you for free. 

In Orange, the Police Youth Officer is certified to install safety seats and give advice. For information, call the Police Department at 203-891-2130.

In Woodbridge, the Volunteer Fire Department is the designated safety seat installation destination. Many firefighters and the Fire Marshal are certified and they often run safety seat clinics. For information, call the Fire Department at 203-389-3440 or 203-389- 3468.
