March 19 is a Big Chili Day for Orange Fire Department

Firefighters and police have cook-off to benefit Special Olympics. Orange Fire Auxiliary hosts Chili Supper to benefit Fire Department.

When things get hot, police and firefighters usually back each other up.

But all bets are off March 19 during the 5th Annual Milford Yacht Club Police & Firefighter Chili Festival to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut.

The finest and the bravest, including Orange Firefighters, will face off in a chili competition from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Milford Yacht Club, 131 Trumbull Avenue, Milford. (Snow date: March 20)

You can come and help be the judge!

Guests will sample each original chili recipe served by the area’s finest and bravest and have the opportunity to vote for their favorite. A panel of local chefs and Special Olympics athletes will also serve as judges for the competition.

Teams representing departments from Milford, Orange, West Haven, Fairfield and Stratford are expected to participate.

The event is being organized by Officer Jeff Nielsen and members of the Milford Police Department.

Tickets are $10.00 each for adults and $5.00 for children 10 years old and under. (Children 5 and under will be admitted free of charge). All are welcome.

Later that night you can enjoy Chief Charlie's famous chili at the Orange Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary's Firehouse Chili Supper.

Always a huge hit, the supper will take place at Station 1, on Orange Center Road from 5 to 8 p.m. and includes a bowl of chili with refill, corn muffin, salad, dessert and drink. Meatless chili also is available.
