Brookfield Resident, Former Youth Center Owner Charged with Sexual Contact with a Minor

Local owner of a New Milford sports center arrested on charges of sexual assault and illegal sexual contact.

Brookfield resident David Amory, 48, of Dogwood Lane, turned himself in to New Milford police on Tuesday on an arrest warrant for sexual assault in the fourth degree and risk of injury to a minor.

Several local news outlets — including the News-Times, Republican American and WFSB — have identified Amory as the former owner of Top Flight Sports Center, a gymnastics and youth center in New Milford that closed August 5, according to the facility’s website.

New Milford Lt. William Scribner said police alerted Amory to the outstanding warrant on Tuesday and he turned himself in without incident.

Amory was arraigned in Bantam Superior Court on Tuesday on two counts of illegal sexual contact with a minor, a felony, and two counts of fourth degree sexual assault, a misdemeanor, stemming from investigations into reported incidents in January 2011 and June 2012.

Amory, represented by the law offices of Smith, Keefe, Moraghan and Waterfall, did not enter a plea and was released on $30,000 bond pending a court date on October 23.

Court documents were not available Wednesday and Amory’s attorney did not return calls for comment. Check back with Brookfield Patch for more information as it becomes available.

The original arrest report listed the address as Dogwood Drive but New Milford police confirmed today that it is Dogwood Lane, Brookfield. The article has been corrected.
