Obituary: Dorothy Warner, 59, Beloved Wife and Mother

Services will be Thursday, 9 AM at Pistey Funeral Home in Stratford.

Dorothy Anne Perkins Warner, age 59, of Orange, the beloved wife of James D. Warner, Sr., passed on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at home with her loving husband by her side, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Bridgeport on September 12, 1953, she was raised in Stratford, daughter of the late Theodore Meeker Perkins and Dorothy Zwettler Perkins. Dorothy had been a West Haven resident for 25 years prior to residence in Orange. She graduated from Stratford High School where she served as secretary in Student Council.

Dorothy’s business and banking career was at Connecticut National Bank, Beneficial Finance and DIANON Systems, Inc. She was known by her family as a very talented writer and was very gifted with anything crafty or creative. Among her many talents, she was a remarkable painter, writer and baker. Dorothy was involved extensively in volunteer work at Washington Elementary School in West Haven in Cub Scouts, PTA and many other school activities. Most recently she was an active member of the Lost Chord Club of New Haven where she traveled to local hospitals to offer encouragement and instruction to laryngectomy patients faced with this life changing surgery. Dorothy kept the family united by hosting many parties in her home with her husband.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, James D. Warner, Sr.; her two children, James D. Warner, Jr. and his wife, Mary and Elaine A. Warner; beloved grandchildren, Brittney, Carly, Jake, Brooke and Shelby; sister-in-law, Diane Warner; brothers, Theodore Perkins, Robert Perkins and Donald Perkins; sisters, Judith Gentile and her husband, Larry and Patricia Phillips and her husband, Marty; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Rizzitelli.

Family and friends are invited to attend the wake on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 4 – 8 pm at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 9:00 am at the funeral home and at 10:00 am at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Rd., Orange with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to: The Lost Chord Club, New Haven c/o Brooks Baldwin, 84 Biohm St., West Haven, CT 06516.

My personal feeling is if there is a way to non-invasively test for these types of illnesses - no matter how rare - it should be done.
