Chester H. Blake Sr., age 93 of Orange, beloved husband of Ruth Cooney Blake, passed away on April 14, 2012 in the West Haven Veterans Hospital.
Chester, a 1936 graduate of West Haven H.S., served with pride and honor as a 2nd LT in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. A decorated pilot, Chester flew a B17 Bomber in 27 combat missions over Germany.
had a distinguished 30-year career as an insurance agent with Allstate. He was a member of the Orange American Legion Post 127, an avid golfer, and a member of Racebrook Country Club.
He was a very proud and loving father and grandfather. Chester will be truly missed.
Besides his wife Ruth of 69 years, he is survived by his three children Linda Blake DiLauro and her husband Don of Orange; Bonnie Blake of Woodbridge; and Ruthmary Blake and her husband Mark Miller of Orange.
He was predeceased by his son Chester H. Blake Jr. Also survived by seven grandchildren, Pam Lyle, Don and Andrea DiLauro, Blake Franchi, Christopher and Hunter Blake, and Erin Dempsey; great grandchildren Brendan and Hailey Lyle; brother, Hayward Blake of Chicago; sister, Marie Vincent of Branford; and his late brother Sheldon Blake.
The family is very grateful to the professionals of the West Haven VA's Home Based Primary Care Unit for their special care.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, April 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., On the Green, Milford.
Burial will take place Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Orange Center Cemetery, Orange with full Military Honors.
