Music is Constant

Merles Record Rack mourns lost artists, and appreciates all types of musical media.

Recently, the music world has lost many huge and famous artists, including Donna Summer and Whitney Houston. These deaths were particularly tragic, putting a drastic end to their era, but their music will forever be remembered. Merles Record Rack has paid a tribute to both these artists, dedicating a corner of the store to both Summer and Houston. LP’s, CD’s and pictures were displayed, honoring the death of these two incredible artists. Customers are still asking for Donna Summer’s famous record “Last Dance,” while expressing how broken up they are due to the death of their favorite artist.

Listening to music is timeless, no matter what point you are at in your life, you will always be able to remember the first time you heard Whitney Houston’s infamous song, “I Will Always Love You.” Running a music store, I am able to create more memories for my customers. I can bring them back to a certain decade or season, just by the music that I play in my store. As one of the last independent music stores operating at this time, we have seen many changes to the industry. When we first took over this business, vinyl, 45’s, and cassettes were our major source of revenue. These days, customers who still have cassette players in their cars know that we are one of the few places left that gives them this media of music. It’s comforting to know that regardless of what goes on in the world around us, music is always constant; it has the ability to soothe its listeners and experience memorable moments in their lives, again.
