Holiday Soundtrack
For twenty-one years I knew Christmas morning for two things. It was the morning I got to eat cookies for breakfast, and when my whole family would listen to Andy Williams' Christmas album.
For twenty-one years I knew Christmas morning for two things. It was the morning I got to eat cookies for breakfast, and when my whole family would listen to Andy Williams' Christmas album. Last year, our Andy record broke right before the holiday. In a haste, we supplemented the vintage vinyl for a CD.
Though I still ate cookies for breakfast, the holiday didn't seem quite the same without the full record experience that morning. The sound wan't as full; the memories weren't as vivid.
This year, we have the record of Andy. It's more visceral. It's full of pops and ticks and imperfections that make it perfect. The holiday to me means old favorite records. The mellifluousness Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown Christmas album fills any room with a sense of nostalgic holiday cheer. Tony Bennet is a necessity--especially when casually dancing around your kitchen baking holiday cookies. Dean Martin complements every glass of eggnog.
Whatever your holiday soundtrack entails, make sure to stop by Merle's to expand your collection. What's your favorite holiday album?
