Connor Sauer Scores Orange Little League's First Scholarship

Life lessons learned while playing Orange Little League have paid off big time for Connor Sauer.

The son of Regina and Eugene Sauer, Connor started playing Little League when he was 7. And by age 12, he was a recipient of the Rick Monk League MVP Award.

Connor went on to play baseball for the Amity Middle School team and, during high school at Notre Dame, he was captain of the cross country team in the fall and played lacrosse in the spring.

"As a young boy playing baseball, all I wanted to do was get a hit, catch the ball and win the game. That’s all that mattered," Connor writes in an essay that helped land him a $500 scholarship from OLL — the first in its history.

"But," he continues, "thanks to the great coaches I had during my Little League years, I learned not only how to become a better player fundamentally but words of wisdom to apply to my life."

The $500 scholarship, to be applied toward the purchase of a new Apple computer, will come in handy for Connor, who has been accepted into the Health Sciences program at Quinnipiac University this fall.

Orange Patch will be publishing Connor's essay in its entirety, so check back here soon.
