Unemployment Still Creeping Up in Orange ... But Slower

We've got June's figures from the Department of Labor.

Don't call it a recovery just yet. Unemployment in Orange is still below the state average, but fewer Orange residents have jobs than at any point so far this year.

Still, it's nothing like the spike we saw last month. At only a .02% increase, it looks like more like a plateau.

A newly released report from the Connecticut Department of Labor shows Orange's unemployment rate hit 6.6% in June, up from 6.4% in May.

That means 490 Orange residents are unemployed.

May was a , adding a cumulative 73 people to unemployment and erasing the humble gains made since February.

Our neighbors are in a similar situation. Milford, Woodbridge, Shelton, Stratford and West Haven also lost jobs in June, with the latter two hitting 9% and 10% respectively. Unemployment across the state stands at 8.1%.
