Strong Storms Possible Tonight for Orange

A cold front moving through the northeast could result in some strong — and possibly severe — storms this evening.

Fasten your seat belts, Orange: it could be a rather bumpy night.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement warning of the chance of strong to severe storms this evening into the overnight hours for much of Connecticut, including the Long Island shoreline.

According to the weather service, an approaching cold front that's currently bringing severe weather to much of upstate New York and Pennsylvania could "help trigger showers and thunderstorms in the very warm, humid and unstable air mass in place" throughout the region.

"Some thunderstorms could be severe, with damaging winds and large hail," the meteorologists reported. "Heavy rain and frequent cloud to ground lightening is also likely."

In an additional special weather statement, the service states the entire shoreline area is under "slight risk for severe storms" tonight, with "heavy downpours" and a "chance for strong damaging winds and hail" also possible.

And while tomorrow's weather looks to be a little bit cooler, with a high of about 79 degrees, the threat of thunderstorms will continue throughout the day and evening hours.

How sad for Patch. Grasping at anything to make this 'Orange' Patch. Even posting a national forecast which you can find on all news outlets for MOST of CT, and simply saying "Storms and Orange" in the same headline, does not make this Patch site about Orange. Keep grasping.

You got that right!!! Terri is on orangectlive.com all the orange news you love to read...
Judy Johnson May 29, 2012 at 11:50 PM
I don't see this news on Patch (The Fire Department is on the scene of a car fire in the parking lot of On the Border. Called in at 5:15 p.m. Fire Marshal called to scene. 5:36 p.m. Engine 35 leaving the scene.) Now you know why I change to Terri
Ace MaGillacutty May 30, 2012 at 01:01 AM
Ct gets no child left behind......national weather map.......State Police arrests......Favorite pet voting (hehehe inside joke).......confusing a She with a He.....what do these things have to do with Orange????? Oh yes they are ON the Orange Patch site that's about it and yes, NO INFO about current events in Orange. tsk tsk tsk new lady, you are dropping the ball.
LiterateLady May 30, 2012 at 01:34 AM
Since when is posting an article about impending severe weather "dropping the ball?" Would you call WTNH "desperate" for posting an article about thunderstorms?
Ace MaGillacutty May 30, 2012 at 02:20 AM
Literary Genius, I know you are new at this having created your name today and newly posting here, but....re-read the comment, literally. The national weather was just one cog in the critique wheel. Bottom line, if this site is to be called Orange Patch, the new GUY should talk about ORANGE. Otherwise just call it Cabbage Patch and stick a fork in it because it's done. I am clearly disappointed that Teri left, was fired or drifted off to better ventures. The least Patch could do was tell us why and give us a reporter who can understand, care about and report on local issues. Hmmm I wonder if the He/She cat article had some personal meaning to the GUY.

Ace, Direct Hit. On Target. Oh how I do enjoy your witty, intellegent and amusing comments and agree with you. While Patch won't give us the reason for tossing the best thing they had going for them - Terri, it's obvious to most that Ms. Literary's 'boxer/briefs' are showing. It doesn't take the detectives from C.S.I. to see through the newly created name.

Vinnie Dee May 30, 2012 at 11:14 PM
I'm a huge fan of http://www.orangectlive.com/ Terri has a BIG following, she rocks. I only come here once in a while to get my daily dose of laughter at the string of ugly comments that continues to barrage this, now what did Ace call it? Oh yeah, this Cabbage Patch Site. I support Terri, not AOL Patch.
Barbara T. May 30, 2012 at 11:23 PM
Vinnie that is so funny because that is the same reason I come here also. Just have to have a good laugh for the day. See you on www.orangectlive also.. Terri is the best.
Mike May 31, 2012 at 03:43 AM
All Terri is doing with these 'breaking fire stories' is posting the calls she hears on her scanner. It's not rocket science, and frankly, kind of boring/useless. Also, unless she gets some advertisers to actually pay her some money for her reporting on her new site, it will quickly devolve into something part-time or eventually cease to exist entirely. Like everyone else, she needs to earn a living, and her new site, while a novel idea, doesn't currently have a viable business plan, or so it seems, unless you think one person has the ability to go up against the corporate behemoth that is AOL, parent company of all of the Patch sites.
Greg May 31, 2012 at 04:34 AM
Mike from looking at your feed you've been critical of Terri in the past. Too bad you don't like hearing about the boring fire calls, but some of us are interested in knowing why the trucks are racing up To Turkey Hill School or sitting in front of our neighbor's house. Not everyone has a scanner or can find another news site with someone as dedicated as Terri is. If you like seeing regional rehashed crap that is on every Patch site with an "orange" stuck in the headline to give it the appearance of being a local story, fine. But if you want to know what is happening in Orange, then this is no longer the place to go. You say she doesn't have a business plan, you don't know Terri. I'm betting the behometh goes down, and Our girl Terri thrives. She is amazing, after all she's been through there's past few years and to jump right in with a new venture the very day she parted ways with Patch, all I can say is don't underestimate her.
Vinnie Dee May 31, 2012 at 04:39 PM
Greg, I agree! Hey Mike, first of all, peek-a-boo. We can see you hiding behind the "Mike". Doesn't take much to figure who's hiding behind Mike, how's that for the Rocket Science you speak of. Terri doesn't need a scanner, the FD Respects her, loves her, and CALLS her to scenes and gives her updates on what's going on. Can any other reporter or media say that they are on the Speed Dial of most officials? I think not. How completely juvenile and trivial of you to rant about her new site not being a paying gig, etc. Does though protest too much? Your jealousy and pettiness is showing along with your slip. She is a much more respected person, friend, professional than most could ever hope to be. Your diatribe sounds petty, and childish. Actually it sounds like your worried. How many people get on here and leave GOOD comments about how Patch is now? As you can see, not many. Orange, and those that respect Terri and all she does for us, don't bow to the "Behemoth" AOL as you can plainly see. We will follow the media(Terri) that gives us what we want with respect to it's citizens. That's Not Orange Patch, not anymore. So, go ahead, speak all you want behind "Mike". All it does is show you're worried about the negativity that you're employer, Behemoth AOL Orange Patch has brought on. On the fun side, it is amusing.
Greg May 31, 2012 at 07:07 PM
Actally Vinnie, Mike has been around for a long time he isn't Gary "literatelady" using a new fake name to ccmment. Otherwise I agree with you in regards to Terri. She really cares about US.
Vinnie Dee May 31, 2012 at 08:30 PM
Greg, Thank you. Sorry to insult Mike thinking he was that other person. LOL. By his post, though, I'm sure I'm not the only one who came to that conclusion. And I agree with you about Terri. As you can clearly see. She spoiled us with HER Orange Patch, and now that she is gone, it's no longer about our town. Luckily she is still up and running, on her own terms and it's still the quality we expect. Thanks Greg.
Nobody June 01, 2012 at 02:25 AM
Nothing about the shots fired and subsequent arrest today in ORANGE? I thought this was ORANGE Patch? It's on Terri's website. The info on her site didn't come from a scanner, either!
Vinnie Dee June 01, 2012 at 12:27 PM
You're right, Nobody. Terri doesn't need a scanner, like I mentioned in my post above. The local officials know exactly who to go to, directly. She has earned their respect and admiration for the professional she is. Thank you Terri for all you continue to do for the town of Orange and it's citizens who, as you can tell, clearly admire and support you.
Greg June 01, 2012 at 03:36 PM
I don't think Terri goes on this site anymore, something about not wanting to give him hits or the misconception that it can still engage the residents by getting people to comment like we're doing here. just makes "LiterateLady" look good.
Vinnie Dee June 01, 2012 at 04:46 PM
She doesn't but she knows all that goes on, trust me (wink wink). You are correct about the 'hits'. That being said, maybe we should all stop giving AOL, Patch, Literallady, etc. the "hits". Grant it, there more like punches but still a hit for the site just the same. I won't give them the satisfaction any longer. See you all on Orangectlive.com.
Vinnie Dee June 01, 2012 at 04:48 PM
And no way, is she Vinne Dee. that's my true identity and mine alone. I'm sure the Behomoth AOL, and all its 'screen names here' know that too.
