Soucy Removed or Resigned from Three State Labor Positions

A Democrat in the federal investigation of campaign finances for Chris Donovan’s congressional campaign has left three union jobs that he held.

The Hartford Courant reported that Ray Soucy, a Naugatuck borough bailiff, was ousted from his position as treasurer of a union local representing state correction officers, and voluntarily stepped down from two Connecticut AFL-CIO posts, vice president of the executive board and president of the Western Connecticut Central Labor Council, after union leaders expressed concerns about his role in the scandal.

The Courant earlier reported that Soucy went on voluntary leave from his job as a supervisor at the state Department of Correction complex in Cheshire after he was approached by FBI agents in April.

Soucy is said to be a co-conspirator in the scheme to conceal contributions to Donovan’s campaign by tobacco dealers and might be cooperating with the FBI investigation.

He declined to comment on the published reports when contacted Saturday by Naugatuck Patch.

Donovan is the Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives and a leading contender for the Democratic Party nomination for the 5th Congressional District.
