Ryan McGuire Wins Matt's Mission Road Race

The Orange resident finishes the 5K charity road race in 16:50.

At a pace of 5:25 per mile, Ryan McGuire was the first to cross the finish line at Matt's Mission 5K road race in North Branford on Sunday.

The 21-year-old resident was nearly a minute ahead of the second-place runner, Aleksandr Moron, 19, and was among about 1,000 people who registered for the run.

McGuire just finished his junior year at UConn, where he is a distance runner on the men's track and field team. He also won Matt's Mission race last year, with a time of 16:36.

Matt's Mission Fund was founded in memory of Matt Picciuto, who died in 2009 at the age of 18 in a speeding accident. His mother, Lynn Riordan, created and runs the organization that aims to prevent similar tragedies.
