Obama is to meet with the families of victims killed in Friday's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and to thank first responders, according to the White House.

President Barack Obama has landed this afternoon at the Bradley Air National Guard base in East Granby, CT, about 60 miles northeast of Newtown, for his scheduled appearance tonight in Newtown.

Obama is to meet with the families of victims killed in Friday's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and to thank first responders, according to the White House.

"The President will also speak at an interfaith vigil for families of the victims as well as families from Sandy Hook Elementary School scheduled for 7 p.m.," the White House said.

The president, in a motorcade of about 20 vehicles, has left the airport.
