Man Who Embezzled from St. Barbara's Facing up to 14 Years

Gregory P. Loles of Easton stole money from St. Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church that was intended for scholarships and construction of a church gymnasium.

St. Barbara’s Green Orthodox Church in Orange, which just received town on Labor Day weekend, is still recovering from a $2.1 million embezzlement several years ago.

According to an article by the New Haven Register, the convicted embezzler, Gregory P. Loles, 53, of Easton, faces up to 14 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 11 on charges of wire fraud, securities fraud, mail fraud and money laundering. He pleaded guilty last year.

The Register said Loles was a member of the church’s Endowment Fund Board, which allowed him to divert funds intended for construction of a gymnasium for youth programs and student scholarships.
